Whiteboard Activity Table
For this sixth-grade math teacher, an innovative desktop becomes a place for dynamic learning.

Sixth-grade math teacher Ally Roman knows her students flourish when they can work hands-on with math problems. This CFEE grant paid for the purchase of a whiteboard table to serve as Ms. Roman’s desk to allow this dynamic learning to happen for individuals and small groups.
Since introducing the whiteboard desk to her classroom, Ms. Roman notes increased engagement, excitement, and even creativity when it comes to problem solving. Collaborative learning is maximized as students learn alongside one another; when students are working at the white-board desk, Ms. Roman says, “some students might solve a problem using one particular strategy, and then students right next to them are solving a problem using another strategy.”
In creating this responsive teaching opportunity, Ms. Roman’s classroom nurtures the kind of teaching and learning experiences that allow for student support and enrichment, and above all, makes learning even more enjoyable for Orange Avenue School students.
